Tevin Coleman is described as electrifying when he is on the field and playing the game he knows best. The American football running back for the National Football League (NFL) Atlanta Falcons was selected in the 2015 NFL Draft after setting an impressive record during his college football game in Indiana from 2012 to 2014.

Before football, Tevin Coleman was a 100-meter sprinter and long jumper; as a high school student, he was considered one of the best in the state of Illinois, but he chose to play football, and he certainly excelled at it. Coleman became the 18th player in NCAA Division I FBS history to reach the 2,000-yard jump mark in a single season. As impressive as this may be, “Rock”, as it is affectionately known, has more to offer than just the game.

Tevin Coleman’s Biography

Tevin Coleman was born on April 16, 1993, in Tinley Park, Illinois, to Liberian parents Wister and Adlevia Coleman. He grew up in the city and attended Bethlehem Temple Missionary Baptists Church, where he sang in the church choir.

The story behind his nickname “Rock”, which his father gave him, borders on the miracle of his birth. According to the story, Coleman was born prematurely, 10 weeks early, and weighed only about 3 pounds, too small to fit in the palm of a hand. Doctors said he had only a 20 percent chance of survival, but to the surprise of many, he pulled through and survived. He lived a full life and became the unexpected, an athlete.

Although baseball is said to be his first love, he was largely influenced by the park near his home, where teenagers wore helmets and shoulder pads and indulged in their own version of American pastimes.

He graduated from high school at Oak Forest High School in Oak Forest, Illinois, where he was an active sportsman. He was on the school’s athletics team where he competed as a jumper and sprinter. He was among the best 100-meter sprinters and long jumpers in the state of Illinois. In his senior year in Oak Forest, Tevin Coleman scored a total of 1,200 yards and 18 touchdowns.

Career

After high school, Coleman chose Indiana over scholarship offers from Georgia Tech, Minnesota, and Michigan State, partly because he wanted to stay close to home. He was ranked 37th on the national running backs in 2012 and began playing college football at the University of Indiana as a true freshman. At Indiana Hossier, Coleman played in 12 games with two starts and rushed over 225 yards in 51 tries; one touchdown; 566 kick-return yards.

In 2013, as a sophomore, he played only 9 games and missed 3 after spraining his ankle; finished the year with 958 rushing yards on 131 carries and 12 touchdowns. On November 25, 2014, Coleman was named one of three finalists for the Doak Walker Awards, along with running backs Melvin Gordon (Wisconsin) and Ameer Abdullah (Nebraska).

In his 2014 junior season, he finished the season with 2,036 yards, making him the 18th player in the history of the NCAA Division I FBS to reach the 2,000 yards rush mark in a single season. The result also broke the school’s single-season record, originally held by former professional football player Vaughn Dunbar.

On December 29, 2014, Coleman announced his decision to skip the Senior Season and enter the NFL Draft 2015. He began his professional career in 2015 after signing a four-year contract with the Atlanta Falcons worth $3.2 with a bonus of $745,244. To date he is a pioneer in the game, having played a total of 40 games, skipped 1,540 yards; with 14 touchdowns, 5 forced fumbles, and only 3 defeats. His touchdown reception during the 34-23 win over the Green Bay Packers in the 2017 season was the first touchdown reception in the history of the new stadium.

Personal Life

In November 2017, Coleman became the father of a series of adorable twins; a boy and a girl. The children were born to his girlfriend Ahkeilah Murib, with whom he has been dating for quite some time.

Is He Deaf?

Tevin Coleman’s hearing is beyond question, but speculation is abundant, especially since he carries the same last name as Derrick Coleman, who is the NFL’s first deaf offensive player for the Atlanta Falcons. It is not clear whether the two are related, and since neither of them has seen fit to respond to the speculation, it is certain that they are not related unless they say otherwise.

Body Measurements

Height: 5’11”
Weight: 206lbs
Arm Strength: 32″
Hands: 8 5/8″

Strength: Coleman has a dangerous jump shot and, according to the NFL, he can immediately change the gaps to overtake linebackers. With his fluid and flexible lower body, he can change direction naturally without interlocking; he also stays right on the line to be ready to hit the turbo. He is also described as a violent run finisher who can duck in front of the shoulder and throw a heavy forearm into his tackler without giving in. His speed is so high that linebackers and safeties often fall at a bad angle, resulting in long touchdowns.

It’s a fact that half of his 28 touchdowns were 43 yards and 8 over 64 yards in the rush of his career.

Weakness: Among all these strengths is a weakness that needs to be slightly improved, such as learning when to keep running on the game side and having enough patience to create backside cutback lanes.
