He gained fame as a teenager in the 80’s and stole millions of hearts with his performances in movies like The Outsiders (1983), St. Elmo’s Fire (1985), About Last Night… (1986), and Square Dance (1987). He was indeed considered one of the most promising young actors of the 80s.
His career was almost cut short by a sex scandal in 1988, but Lowe was able to get himself back on track and reinvented his career in the 90s. During his long career, he got much applause from the critics. His role as Sam Seaborn in the West Wing (1999-2003) earned him an Emmy nomination and 2 Golden Globe nominations.

Rob Lowe Biography, Age
Robert Hepler Lowe was born on 17 March 1964 in Charlottesville, Virginia. Robert Lowe’s mother Barbara Lynn (née Hepler) was a teacher and his father Charles Davis Lowe was a lawyer. He completed his high school education at Santa Monica High School.
In the 1980s he gave acting a chance for the first time as one of the core members of the “Brat Pack”, a group that included Demi Moore and Charlie Sheen. Rob Lowe made his debut on the big screen when he appeared in the 1983 film The Outsiders. He received his first Golden Globe nomination in 1983 for his role in the telefilm Thursday’s Child. Several other prominent roles followed, making Lowe one of the hottest heartthrobs of the 80s.
His flourishing career almost came to a halt, however, when he became involved in a sex scandal involving a minor. He was eventually sentenced to 20 hours of community service. On March 17, 1990, Rob Lowe showed his comedic side as the host of an episode of Saturday Night Live.
He returned fully to public life after receiving help for his alcohol and drug abuse and returned to acting in the 1990s. Upon his return, he starred in films such as Wayne’s World (1992), Contact (1997), and Austin Powers: The Spy Who Fucked Me (1999).
His return received a big boost when he was cast as Sam Seaborn in the NBC politically well-reviewed series The West Wing (1999-2003). He earned up to $100.00 for each episode, and he was also nominated for a primetime Emmy and two Golden Globe nominations for best actor in a drama series. So it was a shock to everyone when Rob Lowe decided to leave the show in 2002. According to him, the station interfered with his character and he was not paid fairly.
After he left the series, his subsequent attempts to shoot a TV series like The Lyon’s Den (2003) and Dr. Vegas (2004) were unsuccessful. Rob Lowe was considered for the role of Dr. Derek Shepherd in Grey’s Anatomy (2005), which eventually went to Patrick Dempsey.
Lowe had more luck with television roles in Brothers & Sisters (2006-2010) and as a regular on NBC’s Parks and Recreation sitcom (2010-14). He also played the lead in The Grinder (2015-2016), for which he was nominated for a Golden Globe and People’s Choice Award.
Rob Lowe turned 54 years old in March 2018. However, he has managed to retain his youthful appearance and has remained a timeless Hollywood hunk.
Rob Lowe’s parents divorced when he was just 4 years old. He was then raised by his mother alongside his younger brother Chad Lowe. Like his brother Rob, Chad Lowe is also an actor, director, and producer.
As an actor Chad Lowe won a Primetime Emmy Award in 1993 for his supporting role as an AIDS victim in the drama series Life Goes On. He also had recurring roles in the iconic 1990s series Melrose Place and the medical drama series ER. In April 2010 Chad Lowe was also cast in the role of Byron Montgomery in the teenage thriller series Pretty Little Liars.
Is He Gay?
Rob Lowe never admitted to being gay and there was no reason to question his sexuality. Even more, considering that he has been married to a woman for over 2 decades, one can assume that the eternal crush is heterosexual.
However, in his memoirs “Love Life”, published in 2014, the ageless actor revealed that he had actually kissed a man before. During the shooting of a scene for the 4th season of the Showtime comedy Californication, his character kissed the character of Evan Handler, according to him. The actor revealed that the kiss was not in the script, because neither of the two characters was gay, but he only did this for the sake of the comedy.

Rob Lowe can be described as a cat with 9 lives, who always find a way to discard her career. His acting career stretches over 3 decades and although he hasn’t had much luck behind the camera, his acting talent has kept him relevant.
His value is estimated at around 30 million dollars. Even though a large part of his fortune comes from acting, Rob Lowe does not owe everything to acting. He is also a best-selling author with two memoirs in his name. In 2015 the ageless actor launched a range of skincare products for men. He continued this in 2016 when he launched a fragrance line called “18 Amber Wood”.
After hitting rock bottom in 1988 after his sex scandal with a minor, Rob Lowe decided to make a fundamental change in his lifestyle. In contrast to the hard-boiled womanizer he was in the haystack at the time, Lowe now leads a healthy, sober lifestyle and takes his exercise very seriously. In May 2015 he celebrated his 25th anniversary of sobriety in May 2015. Cheers!
Thanks to his dramatic lifestyle changes and, of course, his good genes, the actor still manages to look youthful, even though he is well over 50 years old.
