Controversy

Ilya “Dutch” Lichtenstein, 34, and his wife Heather Rhiannon Morgan, 31, have been accused of laundering 119,754 bitcoin stolen from Bitfinex. They are reported to have transferred the money to their digital wallet, which is managed and run by Lichtenstein. Lichtenstein holds dual citizenship in Russia and the United States. The inquiry will be handled by special agents from the IRS, FBI, and the Department of Homeland Security.

Lichtenstein and Ms. Morgan have both been set to appear in federal court in the afternoon of Wednesday, February 9th, 2022. It’s unclear whether they’ve both retained separate lawyers to speak on their behalf. Lichtenstein’s father, on the other hand, has yet to remark on the news. He stated that he would be unable to comment on his son’s arrest.
