Ersan Ilyasova was born on May 15, 1987, the son of Turkish parents Enver Ilyasov (father) and Iraliye Ilyasov (mother). His mother Iraliye gave birth to him in Eskisehir, a fast-growing city in northwest Turkey. He has a sibling, a sister named Nelly Ilyasova, who supports him very much in his flourishing career.

Ersan started his professional career in 2003 and made his debut for Yesilyurt in the Turkish second league season 2003/2004. After an impressive outing, he advanced to the Turkish basketball league and played for Ülkerspor in the 2004-2005 season. In 11 games this season he averaged 3.2 rebounds and 4.5 points.
After the season, the basketball player switched to the NBA after being selected as the 36th overall Milwaukee Bucks candidate in the 2005 NBA Draft. He made his debut for the team on November 1, 2006, in a game against the Detroit Pistons. Ilyasova was later, on November 14, 2005, called up for the Tulsa 66ers of the NBA Development League. After 46 games, averaging 1.0 assists per game and 12.5 points for the 66ers throughout the 2005-2006 season, he rounded out the commitment. The Turkish hunk was later appointed a restricted free agent by the Bucks in June 2007 after playing in 66 games and averaging 2.9 rebounds per game and 6.1 points for the team.
His next stop was Spain, where he won the 2009 basketball championship with FC Barcelona of the ACB League after signing a two-year contract with the team on July 18, 2007.
In 2009 Ersan returned to the Milwaukee Bucks for the second time. He would re-sign his contract with the Bucks on July 12, 2012, and eventually end his association with the team in 2015. From 2015 to 2016, Ersan spent his valuable time at the Detroit Pistons, having transferred to the Pistons on June 11, 2015, in exchange for Shawne Williams and Caron Butler.
In 2016 Ersan played for Orlando Magic and Oklahoma City Thunder, from 2016 to 2017 for the Philadelphia 76ers, and later from 2017 to 2018 for the Atlanta Hawks. Ilyasova returned to the Philadephia 76ers for a second tour on February 28, 2018. He currently represents the Milwaukee Bucks in the league since July 16, 2018, when his third outing with the team began.
